“We know exactly how to restore a painting, but we have no idea how to restore a person.”

Mary and Laura are in the back room of a gallery, both drawn to the same piece of art: a large, empty frame. The painting they each see pulls them in, exposes their secrets, and ultimately connects them. Even just for a moment.

Once in a while, a writer reminds you that a ten minute play doesn't have to fit inside the typical frame - no pun intended. This play is expansive, soaring, beautiful; the world of each of these characters ripples outwards, far beyond the confines of the story. This is a remarkable play, and Lederer has achieved something majestic, and captured it in only ten minutes. This is one to elevate an evening of short plays and remind the audience of what theatre can do.
