“You only hurt the ones you love” might be the theme song of the Bucket List of Booze Club – a weekly gathering of four old friends who sample exotic booze and talk about everything. (“It’s like a book club, but without all the inconvenient reading,” says one.) Bad first dates, exes, hot flashes, jiggly upper arms – nothing is off limits for these no-holds-barred women, and most topics are accompanied by lots of laughter. However, a jealous competition between single mom Collette and Jen, an unmarried attorney, over the future of Collette's daughter threatens to destroy the group. A serious illness both exacerbates the conflict and makes its resolution more urgent. The play ends on a bittersweet note that affirms the power of friendship and the importance of treasuring those we love.
