Under the shadow of an administration slowly unraveling LGBTQ rights, Manika, an Indian-American palliative care pediatrician and former Spelling Bee contestant, is having a baby with her partner Jeanette via an unconventional sperm donor. Coming home from a baby shower, the women are surprised by Manika's old friend Adam, recently released from his musical theater cruise gig (for undisclosed reasons) dumped by his boyfriend, and in need of a place to stay. Mrinalini has this way of taking strange and absurd stories--in this case, a serial sperm donor--and rendering them with poignant humanity.

I was privileged to be in the room with Mrinalini while she developed this play. It is a timely, touching, and humorous examination of friendship, parenthood, and the very frightening possibility that we are losing more rights than we are gaining.
