Cora

FULL LENGTH: A young photojournalist travels far from home to document war crimes. But first, she must agree to leave her heart behind. Fortunately, her news corporation has state-of-the-art technology to ensure all hearts are protected and thoroughly entertained. Cora explores how a digital culture that connects us to the world can separate us from ourselves.

Cora is a wild ride! This play is funny, simultaneously heart warming and heart breaking, and full of questions worth all our consideration. Our obsession with the 24-hours news cycle has lead to an individual and social desensitization that this play envisions on stage. Katherine Varga has written a wonderfully theatrical piece.

I was fortunate enough to see a reading of this exciting new play at the Viterbo New Works Festival in early 2019. Ms. Varga's artistry, skill, and imagination created a beautiful theatrical experience that I'm still thinking about many months later. I can't wait to see more of CORA.

This play is THE definition of theatricality. The last time I remember getting shivers like this from reading a play is the hat parade scene from Caryl Churchill's Far Away. Varga beautifully personifies love, happiness, horrors, and devastation in a way that only a heart is strong enough to handle.
