Last night, Stacy and Mia were strangers, grinding on each other in the dark in the basement of some gross frat house. The next morning, they’re shocked to find out that they were randomly assigned roommates for their Sophomore year. Over the fall semester, Stacy and Mia try to avoid falling into something deeper, but without anywhere to really go in rural Ohio, they can’t help themselves. Through the use of text, movement, and music, STACY & MIA investigates the titular characters' relationship with class and codependence. When there aren’t even 120 square feet to go around, what could boundaries possibly look like? STACY & MIA asks whether it’s possible not to air your dirty laundry when you’re literally living in it.

  • Nick Malakhow: Stacy & Mia

A unique and engaging play that balances a fine line between realism and heightened theatricality. S MJ examines boundaries in inventive ways, illustrating how power dynamics, identity, socio-economic background, and other intersecting identifiers inform relationships. The movement sequences that punctuate the scenes are packed with character and thematic info and would be a perfect place for a production team to leave its unique mark on the piece.

A moving and vibrant new work that shows how class and circumstance can ruin our personal relationships. The sort of new play we should be exploring in 2020
