This monologue (for an orca! too much fun!) is silly on the surface, but sad underneath. Luna is happy to be fed and kept company by humans, but he hasn't seen his pod in a long time and he's afraid to go looking for them on his own. The play touches on the consequences of what we're doing to our oceans and the interconnectedness of all life on earth. You get the sense that Luna is trying to make the most of bad situation. Sad sentiments delivered in an upbeat way always feel the saddest. Such a great piece.

One of my favorite plays by Richter - it's a big play like the protagonist itself - an Orca whale - but only a few pages. Big in emotion, big in subject matter, big in environment themes. It's a genius idea to tackle the play's criticisms indirectly through an innocent creature. It's funny, it's cute (I'd love to see this in performance, even in Zoom), but ultimately a sad play that makes you reflect on abuses against animals and nature. We need more plays like this.

This interchange - between an an animal living and aquatic life and a videoconference platform - distills the separation between us and our environment. A mournful piece, and a call to action.
