Man Cave; the North End of Euripides Street

(10 minutes) 408 BC. Euripides is hiding away in his cave on Salamis, an island not too far from Athens. He is 74 years old and planning to move as he cannot bear to see democracy disintegrate and fall to the rabble. His good friend, Socrates, 63, arrives and irritates him with "Socratic" questions and coaxes him into revealing the plot of his next and last play "The Bacchae" before it's fully hatched. Athens is falling apart and Euripides wants to write about a cross-dressing king?!

Man Cave; the North End of Euripides Street cleverly blends ancient Greece with modern politics, using the banter between Euripides and Socrates to explore political decay and legacy. Syran's wit and the play's timely connection to recent events make it both insightful and entertaining.

Seeing the connection between today and ancient Greece - excellent!! I have a play that takes place in ancient Ithaca, so I've been in that world and every word in Nora's play rings true or, I should say: TRUE! I love Socrates and his questions being questioned. I love the connection to the present. I love a story that mixes laughs with serious considerations. Brava!

Nora Louise Syran does an amazing job of connecting the fall of Athens with the events of January 6 in this modernized meeting between Euripides and Socrates. You don’t have to be a scholar of Ancient Greece to appreciate this story of an aging playwright concerned with the political climate as well as his own legacy. Well done!
