Weekend at Jimmy's: a Star Trek Parody

by Alexandra Rogers

While on their way to a diplomatic meeting on Vulcan, the crew of the Enterprise takes a short detour to respond to a distress call. But after bringing the sole survivor of the crash aboard, they discover that (per usual) things are not always what they seem… Will they live long and prosper? Will they find love? Or is no one (nor their mom) safe from this mysterious stowaway?

LENGTH: 60-65 minutes

Anyone who loves Star Trek will absolutely love this! Spot on combination of parody and homage. Would love to see this staged. Beam me up!

Honestly, I wish this had been an actual episode of Star Trek. Rogers writes a delightful parody, with a real sense of what we know and love (and hate) about the characters. Even the stage directions had me giggling. And this would work both in person, or as a radio play/Zoom event.

Set phasers to... STUNNING! Hysterical show! Like the show Parks & Rec but make it Star Trek and also "Weekend at Bernie's." Every character is the perfect spoof of the original cast from the show. If you're looking for a sci-fi parody that can be done virtually or in person, I say set a course for "Weekend at Jimmy's!"

Character Information

  • Captain James T. "Jim" Kirk
Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Thirty-something. President of the Spock fan club. Jim is cocky and brilliant but also the biggest dumbass you'll ever meet. He is stubborn and impulsive, but somehow this blends with his creativeness and empathy to make him a fantastic captain. Even if he does break the prime directive 8/10 times.

  • Commander S'chn T'gai Spock
First Officer. Half Vulcan. Half-Human. Full Drama QueenTM. Spock holds logic above all..... Except, that is, Jim. He keeps his friends close and his emotions closer. And though he likes to pretend to be an emotionless Vulcan, Jim brings out the human side in him and, in turn, his wit and sarcasm. I could go on and on about Spock but I’ll leave it at that.

  • Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy
CMO. The oldest of the bunch and Too Damn Tired For ThisTM. A southern gentleman without the manners, Bones is eternally grumpy- though that’s only partially for show. This grumpiness extends to everyone, enemies and friends alike, and often puts him at odds with Spock (who he would consider one of his closest companions, but you'll never hear that from him). He is best friends with Jim, which is lucky for Jim because Bones is the only reason that man has not yet met his maker. Bones is from Georgia, so you must be able to do some brand of southern accent.

  • Lt. Commander Nyota Uhura
Communications Officer. Uhura is black, in her 20s, and probably the smartest person in any room that she's in. She is proficient in 83% of all federation languages and an all-around badass, yet she is criminally underestimated and underutilized (a fact she is well aware of and resents). She also has an extremely keen eye for drama. Uhura knows all and sees all, and will meddle in other’s affairs, but it’s always for the greater good.

  • Ensign Pavel Chekov
What is Chekov's job? Not quite sure. At 17, he is the youngest person on the crew and incredibly smart, but like Jim, is also a huge idiot. He merely goes with the flow and waits for others to tell him what to do. He is also Russian and takes great pride in this heritage, a fact that he will never let anyone within earshot forget. Must be able to do/learn a Russian accent, or at least manage a ridiculous bad one.
