  • Donald E. Baker: The Losing End

The second in Ken Love's "Default" trilogy tracing the political rise of a conservative Black senator--"Default," where she runs for Senate; "The Losing End," where she runs for reelection; and "...And Women Rule Over Them," where she runs for President. They are a terrific commentary on the cynicism permeating American politics, where ideals are negotiable, the quest for power is paramount, and violence is just part of the game. Excellent work in which the details seem all too familiar.

  • Morey Norkin: The Losing End

In this fascinating sequel to his spellbinding tale of political intrigue, “Default,” Ken Love has Senator Esther Bailey running for reelection against a Democratic Socialist and a Christian nationalist. As Senator Bailey shifts her social conservative views to a more moderate stance, the bellicose nationalist overshadows the campaign. The divisions we face today, including the political violence, are on full display with no easy answers. Absolutely worth reading/seeing/discussing.
