Skinny Legend

When fat-positive Instagram influencer Katy comes meets her "traditionally handsome" boyfriend's old friends, she finds herself questioning her relationship with him and her relationship with her body. A dramedy of social media, pyramid schemes, and the chokehold thinness has on our modern world.

Liv Shoup's play "Skinny Legend" is more than a play about body acceptance. It's a play that encompasses a multitude of feelings including ambitions, desires, jealousy, and the need for human connection. Fast paced with some lovely comedy, "Skinny Legend" will challenge you to rethink your friendships and your love of self. Well done.

I really enjoyed this play and was engrossed by what it has to say about body acceptance and how pervasive fatphobia is in our world. Loved the use of social media throughout the play. Loved how this play looks at body acceptance through the lenses of people of all sizes. Katy is a wonderful role for a fat actress. More plays like this that celebrate bodies that aren't seen that often on our stages.

The most important casting note: Katy (the leading female role) must be at least a traditional women's size 20. She must be large enough to believably face discrimination on a daily basis.
