Dr. Woon is a physics professor and a refugee from a foreign country with a violent dictatorship. He gave permission for his son to play football thinking the term meant soccer; when he realizes the American game is more violent he goes to see the "football teacher." The coach mentions that he's on the way to his daughter's violin recital even though he's tone deaf - "You've got to support your kid!"
