LIV and JON are a middle-aged couple and co-owners of a luxury candle brand, and whose marriage is in trouble. They have just said good-bye their beloved cat of nineteen years, SNOWBALL. But that night, a strange woman enters their home and takes refuge there. When she’s discovered, she reveals that she is the human reincarnation of their deceased cat, Snowball. She convinces them by way of memories of her former life there, along with her detailed history of her previous lives with Liv, who is an avowed Buddhist and fervent believer in reincarnation. Liv and Jon allow her to move in, and proceed to “domesticate” her - by eradicating her former cat habits and characteristics to help her to behave more human. They succeed - up to a point. When they host a family gathering for Thanksgiving, Snowball tries her best to keep her former cat instincts hidden, but her efforts eventually go completely awry. Jon insists that he and Liv find a new home for Snowball, but Liv flatly refuses, and Jon moves out. A month later at Christmas, Liv tells Snowball she wants to adopt her as her daughter. Jon shows up with Christmas presents for both of them, and confesses to Liv that he’s sorry for putting their business partnership ahead of their marriage, and promises he’ll change. Liv agrees to take him back, and Snowball is thrilled to have her family back together again.
