Chekhov's Gun is a compelling love letter to its namesake, but offers a contemporary spin on realistic family drama. One of my favorite parts was the neurodiversity representation. As a member of a family that contains people who need varying levels of support, it was gratifying to see the way Perry was able to portray a subplot of a family that looks a little like mine finding acceptance and support.

An intricately crafted play that draws inspiration from its namesake playwright while also feeling at times like Albee or Letts. "Chekhov's Gun" plays the field with genre, taking elements of family drama, satire, black comedy, farce, and even thriller at times. The generational tension and spiderweb of interconnected relationships binds together a story that travels widely in its scope while staying in the same location. There's a lot here, and all comes together in a very compelling way!

The delight of traditional theatrical humor structures is a familar hug in Chekhov's Gun. Each ingredient coalesces into an evergreen PLAY, with every taste an audience hopes for when embarking on a family dramedy. I am forever biased for a sprawling generational story of grief, and Perry's character texture and situational devices evince how tragedy is best explored through tension and release. Succinctly: expertly executed with an intriguing color given to each player, a pleasure to unravel.
