Keiko combines a truthful exploration of adolescent social dynamics, female friendship, and the politics and toxic structures of theater with gloriously heightened theatricality and a potent, powerful ending. The high school theater child within me loved the eclectic and recognizable students rendered here, as well as small structural details that amplified that lens (i.e. defining the passage of time by productions, auditions, etc.). I'd love to see this staged! Great show for schools.

Green's play is about the brutality of being young — wanting too much, believing that hard work always pays off, and intense friendships — while making space for harsh realities and hilarity. I was floored by the extreme humor mixed with utter devastation and destruction enacted by young female characters. This play would be killer for college students!

This play!!! I had the pleasure of seeing a reading at the Lanford Wilson New American Play Festival and I absolutely fell in love with this story and these characters. A true ode to girls who Care Too Much and Want Too Fiercely, any passionate young person will see themselves in this story. Expansive, nuanced, and full of twists and turns, this play is a new favorite! I can't wait for the chance to see it fully staged.

ANNIE, 17, a senior. Tightly wound. She's been studying singing and dancing and acting, and she wants to be the next Bernadette Peters or Kristen Chenowith (or whoever the young folks are obsessed with now). Just waiting for that one day she'll get to sparkle.

GRACE, 18, a senior. Not in the Drama Club. She moved here at 14. She was the popular star of the softball team, but she got kicked off for partying on school property with a bunch of guys, after one of them posted her exploits on the internet.

STAGE MANAGER, 15, sophomore. Literally has no time for your nonsense.

OLGA, almost 16, junior. Orchestra. Plays violin. Second chair.

SHELLY, 16, junior. Orchestra. Plays violin. First chair. Olga's BFF since they were 6 years old. They live on the same block.

JANE, 23, the substitute drama teacher. Jane is a young Mom of a 4 year-old. She went to this high school.
