Marianne, newly eighteen, just learned that her parents’ origin story may not have been quite as romantic as she thought. Meanwhile, Lulu tries to reignite a spark with her boyfriend, who she just found out has a secret online dating profile. When the two girls’ drama-nerd-roommate Harriet brings in baggage from a student production of All’s Well That Ends Well, the thematic ideas of consent and manipulation start to seep into their lives.

This is a fantastic play. I was amazed by the layers of trickery going on here. Very unlike any play set in college that I have ever read. Bravo to Green for tackling such a complicated and, at times, disturbing subject. The playwright perfectly blends the serious with the comedic as these characters try to trick each other in so many ways. Loved the relationship this play has with Shakespeare. I hope this gets produced all over.

Cannot recommend this play highly enough!! The rich, devastating realness of each character had my heart on the edge of its seat. A really beautiful exploration of attraction, love, friendship, desire, Firsts, coming-of-age, family, etc etc etc. Would so love to see it in performance— such a fearless exploration of difficult or seemingly-sticky subject matter, that gets right to the heart of what it is to be a person in the process of Trying to be Better.

Beautiful adaptation. The comedy is alive in the text, and the question it asks of an audience in its conclusion equally alive.
