The Convoy

This 10-15 minute family drama is based on true events. An old photo, taken during an evacuation from a country on the edge of war, brings back two very different memories of the same experience.

This is a short, very affecting drama that seems simple but is not at all, that seems to be nothing more than two simple conversations but in fact says meaningful things about major themes: personal perspective, innocence vs experience, family relationships, the terror of being a refugee in a violent world, and the nature of history itself. I loved it.

I love to read a play which highlights a story from history which is not that well documented. This is a touching piece, a memory stirred from an old photograph, memories both happy and frightening. In 1974 I was the same age as Grace's uncle in this play, so would not have remembered it, but her mother clearly looks back at the event with happiness, for her own mother made it seem like a fun holiday to protect her from conflict, as we do with the youth.
    A very nice short play!

Such a short and sweet play about how children view the world. It's funny because we have this blimp hanger in my city that we line all the cars up at for a celebration during Christmas - I read the first scene being able to incision it with that perfect childhood memory, looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. It didn't even occur to me what that photo's memory could truly be about until it was explained... I think we all wish we could see the world like a child again.
