  • The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Megan Tabaque as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Winter 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Marry Me, Bruno Mars is an achingly relevant story that examines the intertwined relationship between the rise of anti-Asian hate and far-right conspiracy-mongering. Megan’s astute observations of both massive systems like algorithmic social media and deeply intimate character moments between her female leads are...

  • The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Charles Gershman as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Spring 2022 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Decency is a wonderfully subtle family drama that asks its audience to question just what we owe to those closest to us. Its thoughtful look at the foster care system, class difference, and aging are balanced by a delightfully wry sense of humor. Our congratulations and thanks to Charles.

  • The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Allyson Dwyer as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Spring 2022 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Nothing Remained But Voice and Bones is a sharply-observed longitudinal study on the effects that internalized fatphobia and conventional beauty standards have on the life of a young woman. The piece is fantastically theatrical and refreshingly frank in its depiction of body image struggles. Our congratulations and...

  • The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Dan Caffrey as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Winter 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. Untitled Vampire Play is a heartfelt yet humorous exploration of the virulence of mental depression and the toll it takes on a family. With its liberal use of 1950s movie monster imagery interspersed with quiet, aching conversations between teenage siblings, UTV is an ambitious, visual, thoughtful piece of writing. Our...

  • The Workshop Theater is pleased to recognize Rose T.M. as a playwright selected out of a competitive pool of applicants for our Fall 2021 Writer’s Intensive. The Writer’s Intensive is an eight-week long, playwright-driven process geared towards revising an existing play. In a play reminiscent of The Royale or Chad Deity, Rose poses urgent questions about coming out to one's community, and what one is supposed to do with the very real life consequences of transphobia. Their writing is smart, rhythmic, and a joy to hear out loud. Our congratulations and thanks to Rose.
