The Department of Theater aspires to transform students through immersion in the challenging, unpredictable, and exhilarating reversals of the creative process. As a close-knit, collaborative group of artists and scholars, we endeavor to ignite collaborative engagement, informed observation and rigorous experimentation, infused with a far-reaching sense of wonder, curiosity, and play. We venture to serve Colgate and the surrounding community by creating theater and dance performances that awaken feeling, interrogate assumptions, and sharpen our perception of a complex world.

Colgate University Theater productions seek to make visible a diversity of theatrical and performance approaches with the objective to stimulate research and experimentation for our students and community. We aim to awaken imaginative capabilities and enliven a dialog not from a hollow center, but from a space and place of inquiry that connects to our collective lives and experiences.

  • Our student theatre company performed this piece in a short play festival alongside a handful of other pieces from New Play Exchange playwrights, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. It is an intriguing, mysterious script that provides actors and directors with a huge amount of room to build an interesting show. The table talk for this piece was some of the most fun I have ever had in the studio. Do yourself a favor a give it a read!
