We have a growing New Play Development Program, which includes commissions and workshops of plays and musicals, our Playwrights Lab and our annual Collider Festival of New Plays each spring, which focuses on large scale work from Canada and abroad.
We believe that young people are integral to the artistic fabric of our community. As such, we are committed to programming and initiatives that develop their creative voices and encourage their participation. These include theatre classes, training and camps for the Foote Theatre School and Citadel Young Companies, school educational programming from the Students Club and more.
We have approximately 7,000 regular subscribers, a total audience of 130,000 each season, and an annual operating budget of $13M.
We produce or present up to six plays in our Mainstage season, plus an annual production of A Christmas Carol, a summer musical, and an additional three productions in our multidisciplinary House Series (featuring concerts, cabarets, comedy, spoken word, dance, drag and other forms).
The five performance spaces of the Citadel Theatre complex are the Shoctor Theatre (638 seat proscenium stage); the Maclab Theatre (704 seat thrust stage); the Rice Theatre (a 250 seat flexible cabaret-style black box theatre); Zeidler Hall (214 seat auditorium/cinema), and the Tucker Amphitheatre which is located in our indoor tropical atrium garden - the Lee Pavilion.
