This script is an original adaptation for radio theater of George Bernard Shaw's 1912 version of his classic play, "Pygmalion." Professor of phonetics Henry Higgins accepts a challenge to transform Coventry Garden flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady capable of convincing members of the English aristocracy that she is one of their own. The experiment ends with life-changing consequences for both of them, when Eliza shows she is more than up to the task, and capable of besting Higgins at his own game. Actors must be able to affect passable English accents; Eliza's must pass from Cockney to an over-accentuated aristocratic accent, to a full and natural-sounding upper-class/aristocratic accent.
