A gripping, finely tuned play with dialogue that crackles with authenticity. Gill crafts a fresh, original setup and sustains a slow, unsettling simmer throughout. He deftly navigates layered relationships against a backdrop of racism, as two siblings wrestle with culture and guilt over their father. Richly drawn, deceptively complex characters drive the tension with quiet precision, again showcasing Gill’s mastery of dialogue.

In “Machines Eat People” Max Gill delivers a nuanced and multi-layered drama about two families whose interactions one weekend change the way the characters think about themselves and each other. With great restraint, Gill builds tension and holds emotions taut. Everyone who attended the Depot reading was affected by it. The stakes felt so real, one actor vowed to avoid the mistakes his character made. A beautiful unfolding of one specific moment after another straight to the poignant end. Strongly recommended.

Another pointed, intelligent script from Maximillian Gill; one of the things I love about his work is how sharply he probes into his characters' psyches and creates complicated, warts and all human beings of wonderful depth and beauty.
