THE POINT is a dark thriller that follows a love quadrangle between a college student, a townie drug pusher, his junkie ex-girlfriend, and the hapless friend in love with the co-ed. The tension mounts when one of them is found dead. The story, told out of sequence, follows the aftermath of the death, but on a macro level it examines the rise of economic inequity along with corresponding opioid deaths.

THE POINT is a dark thriller that follows a love quadrangle between a college student, a townie drug pusher, his junkie ex-girlfriend, and the hapless friend in love with the co-ed. The tension mounts when one of them is found dead. The story, told out of sequence, follows the aftermath of the death, but on a macro level it examines the rise of economic inequity along with corresponding opioid deaths.

THE POINT is set behind the “Tofu Curtain”, an invisible county line that divides the quaint Ivy college town of North Hampton from the run-down factory town of Holyoke in Western Massachusetts. While North Hampton boasts Smith College, Holyoke had the highest rate of pregnancies and STDs, and the largest heroin and Fentanyl trade in the New England area in 2023.

The Point - full length play

LUGO, mid-30s, male, preferably Latinx
Big guy. Could be seen as menacing. Has a record. Probably played high school football but now makes his living in “construction” i.e. drug dealing. High up in the Street Kingz gang. Is in a relationship/situationship with Teenie. Boston accent, though he is a man of few words.
TEENIE, 20-80s, female, ethnicity open.
Hardened by life. Hard to pinpoint her age because the drugs have ravaged her. Girlfriend of Lugo and probably his best customer. Lives in temporary hosing in Holyoke. Cool as a cucumber until her bad temper flares. Boston accent.
MURPH, early to mid-30s, male, red-headed, Irish descent.
Smartest one of the bunch. Has plans on getting out of this small Massachusetts town and go work for his cousins. The Fric to Scanlan’s Frac. Knows Lugo and Teenie from high school. In love with Abby. Boston accent.
SCANLAN, early to mid-30s, male, any, but probably Irish too.
The Frac to Murph’s Fric. Not ambitious like his buddy. Scrawny. Funny. Loves to banter with his friend. Alcoholic. Used to get beat up by Lugo in high school. Boston accent.
ABBY, 18-22, female, ethnicity open
A smart, pretty, feisty co-ed from Amherst with well-to-do parents, Arthur and Joyce. Abby attends U-Mass Amherst. Model student, seemingly perfect. Lately she has dated Lugo which many objected to.
ARTHUR - mid 50s, male, ethnicity open
A New England intellectual living in Amherst. A professor at the nearby college, Amherst, where he spends a bulk of his time. His daughter is the apple of his eye and he spoils her by being lenient.
JOYCE - mid 50s, female, ethnicity open
Abby's mother, which is her number one occupation and sole mission in life. Type A. Helicopter parent. Has plans for Abby. Owns a cute, expensive boutique. Doesn't like the Holyokels.
DETECTIVE FOGARTY - 60s, male, ethnicity open
A seasoned detective who works to bust up the Holyoke/Springfield/Worcester crime syndicates that responsible for the largest heroin trade in New England. Weathered. Sick and tired of suspects' bullshit. Good at his job. His wheelhouse is interrogation. Usually.
METALLICA and SLAYER - ageless, male, ethnicity open
Burnout types who could be 17 or 70. Heavy metal heads. Usually best to avoid them.
CAR WASH MANAGER - 40s, any, any
A peeved car wash owner who has an unhappy customer
DOCENT - 40s, any, any
A mannered, permanent art scholar and docent at the 3 Sisters Sanctuary Art Museum, who knows how sacred art can be.
WORTHINGTON 30s, male, white
A gun club director. White because it's a club, and male because it's a club. A big stickler for safety. A big fan of Dale's.
CAMP LADY - 60s, Female, any
A woman who struggles with conflict. Her clients are probably all Karens. Manager of the Button Meadow Dog Camp for pampered pets who made a grave error hiring Scanlan.
ZEE MART GUY - 50's Male, any.
Self important because he manages THREE Zee Mart convenience stores in Pioneer Valley.Doesn't have much else to offer. Isn't much of a fan of his sister, her kids, or Scanlan.
DAHMER - 3 years old, male, Pit or German Shepherd
Trained to kill. Probably just needs some love and crating.
