My favorite thing about this sci fi full length - among many things to love - is what it has to say about human nature and our ability to make things tribal and sow division and debate who is worthy no matter what situation we find ourselves in, even if we were literally starting humanity over. The play ruminates on love, free will, human nature, and more - all from millions of years in the future, after Earth and humans are long gone. So, so clever. So much to think about.

I first read the one act version of this play and it made me sob. This one hit me in all the thinky-philosophical muscles. Is what Dax does to(for) Dan and Cindy a gift or a slow emotional torture? How many times can we love and lose before it changes who we are entirely? I like the thought of this scifi concept tremendously. It's peaceful, even though the life provided to Dan, Cindy and Helen might have an uncanny valley to it. The mystery is why do we have these emotions? Beautiful story!

A really fascinating sci-fi rumination here, with shades of Ellison, Vonnegut, and even perhaps Woody Allen's "Sleeper" thrown in to good effect. The premise certainly allows for some deep philosophical and even theological examination as to just what it means to be human. Ultimately, that is what the best science fiction can do, and Byham has created an excellent example of science fiction here. What's surprising is the warmth and love that we're able to get from the described situation... no easy task. I was totally engaged by this story and would love to see it staged at some point.
