My Dearest Apologies

Downstairs are around a dozen teenage ballerinas, the most drunk they've ever been in their young lives, counting down the hours until everything changes. Tomorrow, they will graduate from one of the country's most prestigious pre-professional ballet programs. So tonight, they get fucking sloshed.

A play about trauma, friendship, and being an artist trapped inside a teenager.

This play is breathless, impossible to put down, and beautiful. It perfectly lands the balance of comedic moments that feel very real, relatable, and exactly how teenagers talk, and then it's very profound. Meaty roles for women in here and the characters are fleshed out, interesting, and lovable even at their most frustrating. Excellent for collegiate theatre and would lend itself nicely to staged readings.

When putting together a cast that is supposed to made of be pre-professional ballet dancers, there will be a temptation to cast actors who fit a preconceived notion of what a “dancer” looks like. I ask you to resist this temptation. The actors “looking like dancers” should not be a priority.

Will, Kate, & Lila should be played by queer actors.
Clara & Will should be played by actors of color.
