A Corporate Affairs Christmas is a comedy and a period piece set in the Australian Public Service in December 1982. It’s an ensemble piece with each of the seven characters growing and overcoming their own conflicts and challenges.
The civil servants who work in the Business Names department of the Corporate Affairs Commission enjoy the plenty of free time they have to obsess over their personal dramas and prepare for the annual Christmas Party. But when one of the team accidentally reveals the ease of their work to a visiting efficiency consultant, the group has to find a creative way to save their jobs.
Even though the time period is 1982, the play deals with contemporary issues such as sexism in the workplace, office romance, workers’ rights, and responding to the threat of automation.
