UNTITLED (blood, marble)

Tally’s husband is a famous sculptor. All his statues have her face. When she’s left alone with the block of marble he’ll carve into his next creation, things get weird as she tells her story - and her secrets - to the block. Struggling with an eating disorder, Tally starts to relate to the block as something that must be reduced, shaped and sculpted into an ideal woman.

An excellent play with so many "how will they do that" moments. So much potential for stage magic. Can't wait to see what a team of artists do with this play. I loved how raw Tally gets with the marble. The writing here is so good. McMorran finds ways to discuss important issues like disordered eating in such an experimental way. This feels like it teeters between theatre and performance art. I can't wait to see an actress take on this role.
