  • M. K. Wessel: The Last Rites of Uncle Manny

A poignantly funny family drama that will make you laugh, cry, and everything in between. The mother-daughter relationship between Molly and Claudia is painfully, hilariously relatable, as is the brother-sister relationship between Claudia and Manny. This play is accessible to all, but if you have connections to Hawai’i or the Philippines, the story is especially moving. Justino does an excellent job balancing humor and drama in this play to deliver a rounded and enjoyable night of theater.

A dynamite work of a family learning to read between the lines, Justino’s three-hander is infused with compassion, loving specificity, and an ear for crowdpleasing yet wholly naturalistic discourse.
