Thanksgiving with Olive and Poppy

by Lynn Millar

Poppy has prepared everything, but Olive tries to help. Maybe we're glad Poppy isn't our relative, but Olive needs to learn more about the family. From Indignant People's Day to the table, this is still Thanksgiving.

These two ladies are great friends and the family story is a sad, but important one. Lynn Millar has given us two wonderful characters to enjoy with a story and setting that captivates the audience and confers a deeper significance than a surface reading can show. Olive and Poppy make for terrific theater and this short piece is worthy of many performances. Brava.

History isn’t always what it seems to be. It’s Thanksgiving, and for Poppy, baking is a passion, or maybe an obsession. Poppy is an immigrant with a backstory she is reluctant to share with her inquisitive friend, Olive. The banter between these two is often amusing, but it’s what lies beneath the surface that makes this short work so intriguing. Add this one to your holiday list.

An enjoyable encounter between these two characters makes for a fun Thanksgiving play. Poppy is definitely a hoot, but there's some hidden depth there as well that's quite intriguing. This would definitely be fun to see staged, and these would definitely be great characters for actors to bring to life. Give thanks for this!
