Axyz and Lapras are two extraordinarily talented teenage boys who spend their days gabbing on voice chat, dunking on their peers, and hacking children’s video games for fun and profit. When their hacker collective abruptly disbands, the two are left unmoored. Axyz wants to start a new hacker group and establish ultimate dominance in the hacker scene. Lapras is content tinkering with weird hacks while toiling away as a technical service agent at Geek Squad. Both are existentially unfulfilled. ADVANCED PERSISTENT TEENAGERS is a play about loneliness, connection, and trying to find agency and meaning as a young person in today's America. A commission from Audible.

WATCHED AT 2026 PACIFIC PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL
At the heart of Kumar's furiously well-written script is a question of how we self-define: through systems designed to dehumanize, or by dehumanizing ourselves? There is an electric energy that drives the play's loud moments (many) and its quiet ones (few, all earned). Ax and Lap make compelling anti-heroes, with goals that audiences can easily root for even as the pit in their stomach grows, the deeper and hungrier and more desperate the story gets.
