Had the pleasure of seeing this piece at the OOB Festival! Sarah explores fandom culture with sharp wit and genuine empathy for the characters of Emily and Justice. This play is equal parts funny, timely, and poignant.

As a former tumblr fandom girlie, I felt so called out by this play (but in a good way)! It’s quirky and layered and says a lot about pop stars and those who idolize them, a conversation that’s becoming more and more relevant as the stars of my childhood increasingly come forward about their hidden struggles from “back in the day.” StarBoys is The Backstreet Boys and One Direction and All Time Low and whichever band changed your life all rolled into one, and Emily is all of us.

A closer look at fanfare. We are too obsessed with hype toward people which is really about ourselves, instead of respect and recognition. So, we ended up with different shades of celebrity instead of leadership. It reminds me of that SNL clip about the man who orders a clown show for himself.
