May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (#MMIR / #MMIW / #MMIWG2S ), a day when activists – often Native women who have lost a loved one – draw attention to an issue that too few Americans are aware of. #MMIR isn’t a new topic in the theatre: it’s the 20th anniversary of Marie Clements’ #MMIW play, and it’s been almost 15 years since Mary Kathryn Nagle first wrote Sliver of a Full Moon. Here’s a mutigenerational list of plays by NPX writers that tackle various aspects of this complex issue. These plays range from works-in-progress to published and produced plays, from 10-minute plays to full-lengths, from musicals to genre-defying new/old forms.
