An astonishing piece. The setting--with its backdrop of Cold War paranoia and memories of the devastating loss of the previous war--is skillfully employed to take us on a journey of grief and anxiety leavened with moments of joy and intimacy. With only three characters the play gives us the feel of an entire town undergoing a crisis. The closing is a gut-punch and the final moments a set of thematically and emotionally packed pure visuals. A sensitively rendered play with multiple layers.

A striking premise with themes of loss, resilience, love, and the fight to preserve a community’s soul in the face of forces, natural or otherwise, that threaten to erase it. Very distinct characters and world building. Brava!!

An evocative new title from Samantha Oty, this play is rich in music, symbolism, and moral urgency, digging into the power of memory and our yearning to be remembered. There is also a not-so-subtle nod to our government’s capacity to betray their own people. Dortha’s relentless drive to preserve her town’s soul, Jasper’s scientific conscience, and Father John’s steadfast compassion weave a woolly web of love, loss, and hope. This script is perfect for anyone craving lyrical, introspective drama.
