All Out Arts, Inc.

About the Organization

ALL OUT ARTS is a NY non-profit with the motto "Fighting Prejudice Through The Arts." Our mission since 1995 is to support and develop LGBT arts, and since 2002 the annual "Fresh Fruit Festival" is the prime expression of that mission, designed to celebrate the LGBTQ community’s unique perspective, creativity & diversity. To that end we sponsor staged and unstaged theatrical, dance, spoken-word events, lectures, and graphic arts exhibits.

  • In our 2018 Main-stage Awards, DIPLOMATS moved us with its depth and profound insight. We had bigger, colorful, award winning productions. Yet against all these, this unassuming play cried: "Outstanding Play." I said in the Award presentation: "-back in November 2016, our nation changed forever. The unbelievable happened. Often, it’s the outsiders who see these events the most clearly... We learn a lot from plays like this, importantly, like the ancient proverb, To See Ourselves, as Others See Us." Nelson's writing is some of the most Existential we've ever seen. We are, all of us, the better...

  • As a festival producer I know this play thoroughly, and voted it through both submissions and our own awards processes.
DeVita has here woven a rich tapestry of lives we THINK we know all too well (from the pop-media ad-agency habitat). But as this weaving unfolds we find warmth, color, depth of character, and wit - all lacking in so much new theatre. This is a winner from the top down.
