The leadership of the Indianapolis-based Phoenix Theatre believes that our city deserves to be emotionally and intellectually engaged in works that contribute to or comment on the national dialogue, that a diversity of voices and viewpoints is vital to the well-being of this city and all who enter the Phoenix Theatre, and that our welcoming, intimate space provides a safe place where risks can be taken and transformative conversations created. We are committed to producing only contemporary theatre, so that through our productions we are inviting a dialogue on current affairs to Indianapolis and are helping to create a more enlightened, aware local community.

  • I recommended The Rocket Men to the NNPN Showcase of New Plays for 2024, and intend to produce it in the fall of 2025. Crystal has beautifully captured a moment in history and presents it to us through an evocative lens. Former nazis building rockets in Alabama is enough to draw us in, but women playing men in this environment makes it all the more compelling. Constance Macy

  • I had the pleasure of directing a production of this play at Franklin College in Indiana. It was a tiny department and the majority of the students were women, so Bennett reworked the play so that all except one of the characters were female. We had so much fun with this script & the audiences loved it (even in small-town Indiana!) It's hilarious & ridiculous while being very accurate to the subject matter. Highly recommend.

  • We had the pleasure of hosting the first reading of this play & the audience loved it. Really strong female characters. It takes on the issue of women's autonomy in an epic way with lots of humor and poignancy.
