Pioneer Theatre Company offers a wide range of exceptional theatre exploring the breadth of the human experience — challenging the intellect, stirring emotions, igniting imaginations and encouraging conversation.

Salt Lake’s major regional theatre, with ~930 seats, PTC produces a seven-play season, running from September through May. Each season includes a mixture of classics, large-scale musicals, and contemporary dramas and comedies. Over the past ten years, it has mounted numerous Utah premieres and regional theatre premieres, from Frank Wildhorn's musical epic adventure "The Count of Monte Cristo" to Wendy Macleod's comedy "Women in Jeopardy" to Kenneth Jones' socially minded drama "Alabama Story."

In 2014, we launched our new-play reading series Play-by-Play, providing 29 hours of developmental rehearsal for three new plays each season. The playwright works alongside a professional director and cast for a week-long residency, culminating in three public readings of each play available to theatre-goers at a very modest cost. The residency includes an honorarium, paid travel, and free housing in one of our guest artist apartments two blocks away.

We accept submissions for Play-By-Play from February to June, either by agent or with a letter of recommendation. Our response time can be three to four months, since we don't have a dedicated Literary Manager.

"Susan B" is a timely, provocative piece, rooted in history and cogent in how it lays out one of the most pressing issues of our generation through the travails of real women.

As a part of our Play-by-Play series, "The Way North" had our audience leaning in. It's a play that effortlessly weaves the urgent present and past pain. It's poetic, relevant, and well paced — besides being unique in content with original characters and a timeless moral core.
