New Georges, in business in New York City since 1992, invests in artists (who are women) of assertive imagination – individually, as collaborators and as a community -- and advances their exuberantly theatrical new plays.

New Georges has established an adventurous, boundary-pushing aesthetic through 41 world or New York premieres, including early or first New York productions of plays by Jenny Schwartz, Lisa D'Amour, Heidi Schreck, Tracey Scott Wilson, Sheila Callaghan, Diana Son, Carson Kreitzer and many more. We support the largest ongoing working community of women theater artists in New York City through production opportunities, play and artist development programs, and The Room, our indispensable workspace for women theater artists -- our 20-year commitment to providing our artists with free or low-cost workspace for new play development is unique among downtown theaters and has incubated thousands of new works. The L Magazine has named New Georges to its “Best of NYC,” and the tdf study OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE: the life and times of the new American play lists New Georges as one of the top 10 theaters nationwide which playwrights name as a leading producer of their plays. The influx of New Georges artists into the field has had marked impact on the representation of women nationwide in theater, film, television and arts education.
