The Welders is a DC-based playwrights’ collective whose mission is to establish an evolving, alternative platform for play development and production. The intent of that platform is to: inspire and encourage members to take risks and make bold leaps in exploring the craft of playwriting; produce one performance of work created by each member playwrights over the course of three years; create significant, meaningful, direct engagement between artists and members of the community; and support future generations of DC-area playwrights. At the end of each group's tenure, we pass the entire organization on to a new generation of Welders. They will produce one show by each member playwright before passing on the organization again.

The capstone to a hugely successful first cycle of plays by The Welders, and a deeply brilliant piece of art.

    20 May. 2016
One of the first short plays developed and produced by The Welders, VERTICAL CONSTELLATION WITH BOMB manages more formal invention than one typically sees in a short play, along with a healthy dose of pathos and a dollop of history, too. It's hard to believe how much is packed into only ten minutes.
  • THE RELIGION THING

If you've got an audience that loves its entertainment with complexity and the need for post-show conversation, THE RELIGION THING is a meaty, intelligent, but still laugh-a-minute story.
  • The Carolina Layaway Grail
    20 May. 2016
THE CAROLINA LAYAWAY GRAIL was The Welders inaugural production, and the script crackled with equal parts magic and humor in front of our audiences.

The Welders' production of this play was a hallmark of our second season: rave reviews, full houses, and a moving production that was "Extremely well acted, and energetically directed." (DC Theatre Scene)
