Milagro's mission is to provide extraordinary Latino theatre, culture and arts education experiences for the enrichment of all communities.
Since its founding in 1985, Milagro has built a reputation as the region’s premier Latino arts and cultural organization, while filling a unique program niche. Milagro productions have Latino roots, but they branch into every corner of human experience, exploring age-old themes and modern dilemmas. As a result, its theatre productions and touring programs reach audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as across the nation, giving a powerful voice to issues affecting the local and national Latino community, and introducing a host of new performers and diverse audiences to the creative scene. As a company that merges the highest aesthetic ideals with social responsibility, Milagro consistently seeks new ways to weave the performing arts into the fabric of community life, and enhances the livability of Northwest communities by collaborating with human and social service organizations that wish to use the performing arts to address issues of concern, including health, education and cultural sensitivity.
Milagro focuses on three key areas: fully mounted productions at the Milagro Theatre; the Milagro Tour, including our education program; and our community arts programming at El Centro Milagro and in the field.
In 1997, Milagro acquired a facility in southeast Portland, establishing El Centro Milagro, Portland's first Latino arts and cultural center and the home of its performance programs and administrative office. Over 30 seasons, Milagro has commissioned 48 new plays and created 47 original works (not including the original plays created by the touring company). Milagro productions have garnered 27 Portland "Drammy" Awards for Excellence.
