OUR JOURNEY: In 1996, Aurora Theatre was established in a converted hardware store in the suburbs of Atlanta. The City of Lawrenceville, GA recognized the positive economic impact the arts have on its community and invited Aurora Theatre to serve as the cornerstone for their revitalization plans. In a unique partnership between city government, private development and a non-profit charity, the city purchased a 100-year-old church and together with Aurora Theatre transformed the space into an award winning theatre, which opened in May of 2007. Aurora Theatre opened the Lawrenceville Arts Center in 2021, serving as the management agent for the entire complex which was an innovative partnership between Aurora Theatre and the City of Lawrenceville. This partnership has been currently interrupted by politics. YES! Our facility is a mini KENNEDY CENTER. While we continue to fight to tell stories that uplift all people, we rely on the amazing storytellers who thrive here at the New Play Exchange!
