Baghdad Wedding

'In Iraq, a wedding is not a wedding unless shots get fired. It's like in England where a wedding is not a wedding unless someone pukes or tries to fuck one of the bridesmaids. That's the way it goes.' From cosmopolitan London to the chaos of war-ravaged Baghdad, this is the comic tale of three friends, torn between two worlds, and a wedding that goes horribly wrong.

In the early 2000s, the media presented us with the image of Iraqis as either religious extremists or grateful recipients of "American aid." This play shows the Iraqi invasion through the eyes of free-thinking, intellectual young men as they decide whether to try to hold on to hope that their country will be good again or find a life elsewhere. The way this play uses the format of storytelling and narration is so effective.
