"Holding It Together" is a play about ten groups of high schoolers attending a football game. In the week before homecoming, the students cope with everything from marching band drama to texting miscommunications to existential cheerleaders before ultimately coming together to face the unknown as a community.
This show was developed with a high school during the COVID-19 pandemic. The large cast size, the abundance of flexible gender roles, and the anthology-like structure were all a product of working closely with the director and writing with their needs in mind, and the students had a lot of influence on the content itself. Additionally, the play was written to be as pandemic-friendly as possible: It can easily be performed outside and socially distanced, on a traditional stage, or via Zoom. There are 27 characters in this play, but most scenes only have two or three characters in them. One of the goals in the development of this show was to include as many drama club members as possible; the original production even opted to include an ensemble that brought the cast size closer to 40. That being said, there's no reason you couldn't do the show with as few as six actors.
