Ellida

(A 5 minute monologue) Ellida treads water in a Norwegian fjord during a long week of sailing camp. She's already failed the rowing exercise and camping out on a rock all night under a sun that doesn't set. She can drown or swim in and give up; she's not giving up. Inspired by Henrik Ibsen's "The Lady From the Sea"

Ellida is a beautiful, dreamlike monologue by Nora Louise Syran, inspired by Henrik Ibsen's "The Lady From the Sea". A young woman is treading water at a sailing camp. She’s tired and wants to just give up. We get to experience her torturous inner battle as she desperately tries not to give up.
    . Beautifully written. Recommended!

The imagery of water, rowboats, desire, and ambition all combine in ELLIDA, a powerful monologue from Nora Louise Syran. There's an romanticism throughout that compliments so well her drive to succeed in an unforgiving environment. A wonderful blend of active, forward-moving activity with emotional reflection on what sailing truly means in this moment.

What a perfect metaphor on life! We all have that one option to sink or swim, and Syran captures that premise beautifully in this lovely atmospheric monologue. A wonderful performance piece!
