No Experience Necessary

by Marshall Logan Gibbs

FULL-LENGTH
When an aloof amateur actor is hired to be the “public face” of a world-renowned author, he
becomes famous overnight. As stakes rise, lies build, and the people he cares most about get
hurt - he must ask: what’s worth more? Fame and notoriety, or a single genuine connection?

This is one of the most intelligent plays I've read! "No Experience Necessary" is both a comedy and a social critique on the divide between Hollywood and middle America, expertly interwoven by Marshall Logan Gibbs. Gibbs takes the classic trope of mistaken identity and gives it a contemporary spin which, in my humble opinion, is much needed. This is a play that many people will find themselves relating to and, perhaps, inspire them to learn how the other half lives.

Fast-paced, contemporary, and funny, this play with shades of "A Face in the Crowd" and "Being There" (two of my faves) really drew me in right away and kept me entertained the whole time. The characters are well developed. Even if Astrid is described as a "manic pixie makeup artist," she's still a great contrast/interest for our boy Jacob. A good balance of romance with new-fangled cynicism, I can see how this would be very enjoyable for audiences to witness. Can't wait to see it staged someday myself!
