Character Information

The lead two roles are not particularly gendered. Companies are encouraged to cast transactors in one or both roles; or neurodivergent actors; or code-switching actors; or any actor who feels that they must "seem."

The play is written for two actors, as well as one off-stage voice. There may be an off-stage ensemble or recorded lines for parts of the play which are heard in the wings.
  • Lady
    The Actor's dresser backstage of "Hamlet." A former actor, and surrogate parent.
  • Actor
    A young actor, caught between problems at home and getting ready to play "Hamlet." The surrogate child of the Lady.
