Killed a Man (Joking)

Okay so Megan may have killed Trevor, but it was an accident! Or it was self-defense. Or both! But now Liv, Amanda, and Katie have to decide exactly how far they’re willing to go to help their co-worker in need. Killed a Man (Joking) is a pitch-black comedy about violence, justice, and what it really means to be a ride-or-die friend.

It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Beth Hyland and their play Killed a Man (Joking) as a finalist for our 2020 National Playwrights Conference. This particular work emerged from a highly competitive, anonymous, and multi-tiered selection process to become one of 63 finalists out of more than 1,500 submissions. This enthralling piece galvanized the hearts and theatrical imaginations of our reading teams and is fully championed by our offices. We are honored to put our enthusiastic support behind this writer and their ongoing contributions to the American Theater.

a taut and sharp look at how women survive (and help one another survive) violence, KAMJ had me going from laughing hysterically from feeling like I'd just been punched in the gut. It wastes no time in putting you in the place of these 4 women, just trying to get by.
