It’s been 936 days since Flint has had clean water. Marion, a third generation General Motors employee, is consumed by layoffs at the engine plant. When her sister, Ainee, seeks justice and restitution for lead poisoning, her plan reveals the toxic entanglements between the city and its most powerful industry, forcing their family to confront the past-present-future cost of survival. As lead seeps into their home and their bodies, corrosive memories and secrets rise among them. Will this family ever be able to filter out the truth? CULLUD WATTAH blends form and bends time, diving deep into the poisonous choices of the outside world, the contamination within, and how we make the best choices for our families’ future when there are no real, present options.

I've only read a sample of this play, but am now dying to read more. A heightened, subtly magical, thrillingly rhythmic and musical exploration of a horrible modern-day tragedy and the endurance, strength, and solidarity of a family of women trying to survive.

This a breathtaking play about an american family trying to survive the Flint water crisis. This is the best play I've read about this piece of modern history because it implicates so many and doesn't leave audiences with clear answers or a clear hero. So many plays I've read about natural disasters tend to solely focus on the economic toll it takes but this play really dives into the health problems and familial rifts that happen when these things occur. It's a play that needs to be part of the canon.
