On an elementary school playground, a boy threatens to tell on a group of girls for swearing – unless one of them kisses him. But just before lips can touch, Kyeoung tackles the boy to the ground. The victory is short-lived. Over the coming years, Kyeoung herself is knocked down again and again. By an alcoholic dad. A group of quick-to-judge friends. And an endlessly invasive parade of men. As we follow Kyeoung from the discoveries of childhood to the realities of adulthood, her stories get stranger, funnier, more harrowing – and more familiar. How do girls grow up? Quickly, painfully, wondrously.

I had the pleasure of reading this play last year and I just read it again tonight. It is as shockingly honest and beautiful as I remember it. Thank you, Ming, for this play, and congratulations on your well-deserved Drama Desk nomination. I hope to see it on the stage one day.

This play bravely confronts the muddy truth of trying to own and explore sexuality amidst a world of competing messages and realities. So well done.

Holy shit, this play! What a raw, visceral, unflinching look at girl/womanhood. Painful, powerful, and unforgettable. Peiffer's dialogue is sharp and gripping, the language evocative, and the characters clearly in focus. Beautiful, compelling work!
