"Legacy" is a terrific feel-good play, and that's because Daysha Veronica has created wonderful characters, especially mother Toni. Toni is an enthusiastic, life-loving, big personality who commands a space in the best way. And then Veronica shows off Toni's support and love for Harper, audiences are absolutely going to fall in love with her.

I'd love to see "Legacy" performed in person. I'd love to see its production history even more full.

A beautiful play about mothers, offspring, and the ways our family can surprise us. The characters instantly engage us and have us rooting for them, as a big decision is revealed. Playwright Daysha Veronica writes with great compassion and authenticity. I can't wait to see this performed.

I had the opportunity to view this play as part of the Boston Theater Marathon XXIV. Each of the characters are captivating and I relished at the moment between Toni and the waitress, but the conversation between Tiffani/Harper and their mother, Toni, is what really got me. It's such an endearing moment for a parent to love and accept their child for who they really are (just as long as they attend an HBCU).

Character Information

  • Tiffani Harper
    17
Child of Toni. Tomboyish. Loves to wear skinny jeans, neutral tone T-shirts, and backwards fitted caps. They have long kinky/curly hair that they keep pressed, and pulled back in a bun. They oftentimes get identified for a male even though they were born a female. Prefers to go by Harper instead of Tiffani.
  • Toni Harper
    44
Mother of Harper/Tiffani. Everything about her screams uber feminine; long, luscious pin-curled hair, Michelle Obama dresses, and her signature Ruby Woo MAC lipstick. Can be very over-the-top, in a loving way. Tries to keep up with the times.
