The Annunciation Play is a re-imagining of the well-known Bible story of the angel Gabriel’s announcement to the Virgin Mary. The play re-imagines the narrative from a feminist perspective, following Mary’s struggles as a young, unmarried, pregnant woman in an unsympathetic ancient Judea, as well as her powerful crusade to bring the truth of her child’s identity to light. Meanwhile, Gabriel grapples with new experiences in the human world, and his ever-growing otherworldly obsession with Mary herself.
