So much is said where the only noise is the wind and the waves. This story reminds us that sometimes the hardest choice to make is acceptance.

While Huang doesn't tell us what the future holds for these characters, it's abundantly clear by their conversation. While they view their situation through different lenses, it's clear they both want to believe that miracles exist--whether it's a cure or a mermaid in the ocean.

Touching and beautiful, this lovely short play portrays a moment of hope for one character and reality for the other. We all need to believe that there really are mermaids.

Smart dialogue that makes it clear what they are not saying. A chance of mermaids = beautiful.

Heart breaking thinking of the things they may be facing. A slow, lyrical romantic tale of two people sitting by the ocean. I hope she sees a mermaid.

JESSICA HUANG’s characters are looking for faith of a better future. Her short play, “Mermaids”, is a beautiful look at a husband and wife wanting a sign of hope. We all have feelings of wanting to finding something good. Our search leads us in ways we may never fully understand. This is a thoughtful play.

This short play is tenderly devastating in a way that sneaks up on you.

This little gem of a play manages to paint a heart-wrenching portrait of two supremely real human beings in such a short play. It brought me to tears.

A beautiful play of humanity and hope. We all need mermaids at times, and Huang's characters take us with them on a roll in the waves of the dark side of life, and as we come up for air, we see the mermaids.
